Challenges

The widespread use of antibiotics in agriculture is resulting in increased antibiotic resistances. The World Health Organization (WHO) has already warned that by 2050 infections resulting from the failure of antibiotics may become the main cause of death around the world. In spring 2017, Greenpeace tested slurry samples from pigpens in Germany. 68 per cent of the samples tested contained multi-resistant germs (ESBL/3-MRGN).

The German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture issued a directive about veterinary pharmacies, which has been in force since 1st March 2018.
As the development of new antibiotic mechanisms has been stagnant for many years, a new strategy for reducing/minimising the failure of antibiotics is now being pursued, namely strictly regulating the use of antibiotics . The aim is to restrict the spread of antibiotic resistance.
MicroSilver BG™ products for supplementary care during treatment offer you support in your strategy for minimising the use of antibiotics.

MicroSilver BG™ is highly pure, microporous silver. It can be incorporated easily in different materials and formulas, is not cytotoxic and can thus be used safely and for a diverse range of applications. MicroSilver BG™ supports the regeneration of a natural skin appearance in humans and animals alike.

Around 45% of the cattle in Germany suffer from the hoof disease digital dermatitis (dermatitis digitalis*).

A study aimed at determining the efficacy of MicroSilver BG™ hoof foam in the adjunctive care of digital dermatitis revealed that MicroSilver BG™ in hoof foam fortifies the skin barrier of the hoof cleft durably and that irritated areas of the skin are soothed and cared for with a long-lasting effect.
The MicroSilver BG™ containing foam supports the regeneration of the hoof skin.
Compared to untreated feet, the product containing MicroSilver BG™ was able to stabilise the hoof situation and considerably reduce the relapse rate with regard to digital dermatitis **.

One of the main reasons for owners to take their animals to the vet are for ear infections and skin complaints. MicroSilver BG™ gently supports the skin’s natural defence mechanisms.

Products with MicroSilver BG™ are well suited to the adjunctive care of skin susceptible to irritations. High-quality ingredients such as MicroSilver BG™ work together to produce a protective film on the stressed skin.

HyProtect™ is an ultrathin plasma coating which protects the surfaces of medical implants against bacterial colonisation and decreases the number of germs found on surfaces. It is a polysiloxane coating containing pure silver.
HyProtect™ is successfully employed for the coating of implants/plates (TPLO) and screws used in veterinary endoprosthetics. According to literature, the rate of infection in TPLO surgery is between 4% and 14%. Some surgeons even estimate it as high as 20% to 40%. In more than 15,000 implanted TPLO plates coated with HyProtect™ just 11 infections were reported. Some of these infections were also SSI (Surgical Site Infections) that are not associated with the implant itself. This corresponds to an infection rate of less than 0.1%.
